Heart Healing through Nature

“The heart is like a garden. It can grow compassion or fear, resentment or love. What seeds will you plant there?” —Jack Kornfield
“Healing yourself is connected with healing others.” —Yoko Ono
When I am feeling despair, nature soothes me. Tall trees, an expanse of sky, chirping birds, and a gentle sunrise or sunset serve to remind me that I am part of something extraordinary on this magnificent planet, our shared Earth home.
Although our journey here as humans can be fraught with family, community, and world strife, we know that is not how it is meant to be. We know we are here—amidst so much natural beauty—to experience love, joy, compassion, and communion with all living creatures.
But we have a lot of healing to do. When I think about all the children dying in wars and all the ongoing, horrific destruction of this planet, my heart hurts. When I think about the hatred we express toward each other in family conflicts, religious conflicts, and ethnic conflicts and toward individuals who are different from ourselves, my heart hurts.
Unhealed people can do a lot of damage.
In my book, “Faith, Hope, Action: Ushering In A New Earth Era, Together,” I mention healing as a necessary step toward helping our global community advance in healthy ways. Much of this healing involves acknowledging those actions that have caused harm; changing these behaviors; and taking some time to grieve.
Our healing, individually and collectively, will lead to healthier behaviors: in our families, in our neighborhoods, and in our world.
We can begin this process by feeling our grief; healing the wounded spaces in our hearts; and centering ourselves in love. Then, we can join together with others who are doing the heartfelt work of healing our Earth home.

Very true! Thank you Diana!
Thanks. Happy May. 🌷
Hello Diana, indeed you speak truth. Following up on this truth requires courage, support, understanding, and certain “grit” to eventually get past the pain…yet every day that I am privileged to sit with others in therapy, I meet such gifts in others. Surely, tuning into the healing that nature offers us is part of the healing process. As always, thank you for your wisdom…blessings to you! Charlie
Thank you Charlie. Support is definitely key, as well as the guidance of others who can help us with healing tools, skills, and knowledge—both for ourselves and for our Earth home. Grit—or perseverance and faith for the journey—can certainly also come in handy.
Thanks for all you offer to others on this path.
Peace,
Diana
